Mercedes is located in Hidalgo County, Texas. The city is part of the McAllen–Edinburg–Mission Metropolitan Statistical Area. Known as “The Queen City of the Valley” it is one of the oldest towns in the Rio Grande Valley. Mercedes has become a popular shopping destination as it is located near a major U.S.–Mexican border crossing making it accessible to the growing middle class population of Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon.
